My Coworker Terry W. and Me Celebrating WPW at Our Day jobs!

If you live out on the West Coast or, even better, Hawaii, and haven’t yet managed to get yourself dressed and out of the house, I just wanted to give you a head’s up that today is Wear Purple Wednesday. Wear Purple Wednesday aims to raise awareness of Gay Rights by honoring recent gay teen suicides and hate crime victims that have made headlines in the past few weeks. Can you even imagine how much it would suck to not be able to be yourself out of intimidation or fear for your own safety? As author and sex advice columnist Dan Savage once wisely said, “Tolerating Others is the Price We Pay for Being Tolerated Ourselves.” So, remember the Golden Rule (Jesus said it), love your neighbor as you love yourself, and wear some purple today.

Must See Art: Jason Limon’s Blood/Nectar Exhibit at NYC’s Bold Hype Gallery

Flourishing By Jason Limon (Media: Acrylic on Panels)

On one of the rainiest Thursday nights in recent history, Geoffrey and I got soaked to the bone splashing through ankle-deep puddles and dodging the deluge while gallery hopping from Chelsea to Soho. Urban Art Safari! One of my favorite exhibits that we were fortunate to make it to that night is Jason Limon’s Blood/Nectar, currently on view over at the Bold Hype Gallery, which is a must see for fans of surrealist painting. Jason paints in acrylics on canvas and wood panels as well, with his subjects incorporating fusions of organic matter, such as birds that have evolved to be part plant or part machine.

His paintings are really cool and remind me a lot of one of my other favorite contemporary surrealist painters, Greg “Craola” Simkins. Jason Limon is getting added to my list of cool artists to pay attention to. Check his stuff out while you can!

Jason Limon Poses Next to His Work

Blood/Nectar runs to November 12, 2010 at the Bold Hype Gallery, located at 547 West 27th Street (West of 10th Avenue) Suite 510, New York, NY.

RIP Dr. Benoît Mandelbrot

“The Butt”

Benoît Mandelbrot, the French-American mathematician known for his work with fractal geometry, died on Thursday, October 14th, at the age of 85. Mandelbrot lent his name to the Mandelbrot Set — the very beautiful, stoner-friendly mathematical object seen in the above picture. When I was younger, I enjoyed referring to the Mandelbrot Set as “The Butt because, well, because it looks like a butt.

“We learned that Ronnie wanted to work on a statue project before he fell ill. We are honored that Wendy Dio and his management called on us for this project,” remarks Tony Simerman, President and Creative Director of KnuckleBonz, Inc. “It’s been a real pleasure to work with Ronnie’s family and the people at Niji on this project. I was a fan of Ronnie’s very early and owned all the original Rainbow records. I was fortunate enough to see him out in front of Sabbath. RJD was one of the greatest live performers I have ever seen,” adds Simerman.

The statue will be sold directly from KnuckleBonz Dot Com and through select retailers worldwide. Scheduled to ship in December 2010, The Ronnie James Dio Rock Iconz Statue can be preordered at This Link.
