
Jim Carroll, the former drug addict turned prolific poet and writer of The Basketball Diaries, died of a heart attack on Friday at his residence in Manhattan. He was 60.

Gail–you’re my only source on the Jim Carroll story—not even NPR is running this, but they DO devote plenty of space to Ellen Degeneres replacing Paula Abdul on American Idiot, er, Idol.
Thanks for posting this…sad to lose Carroll so early.
