The S F in San Francisco Stands For So Fun!

Andy Warhol Live at the DeYoung. I Saw It.

Hey what’s up. I got back last night from my rad trip to San Francisco, where I had the time of my life nonstop for five days, taking only short breaks in the extreme fun-having for tiny bouts of sleeping. San Francisco is so awesome I can hardly even remain alive now that I am back in NYC. Some of you (having read my most recent post) may recall that I journeyed to the west coast last Thursday to attend the Bartmizvah Palooza of Griffin Sloves. Griffin is the adorable and genius son (national chess championship finalist at age 5) of my good friends from College (and former roommates) Jonathan and Diana, who are just seriously two of the best people on the planet. Let me get you caught up with the Reader’s Digest Condensed version of how I spent my time while I was away from the blog.

Since I arrived in SF on Thursday evening, I had all day Friday free before Barbara (my hostess and fellow Bar Mitzvah attendee) and I had to drive a million miles in rush hour traffic to the suburbs for the Bar Mitzvah Pre-show activates. That left me with many free hours to hang out with Michelle, another super cool SF-based music industry pal of mine. Michelle is so very ass kicking. She and I spent the afternoon at and around Fisherman’s Wharf, doing touristy things like visiting the Aquarium and snapping pics of me posed by the bay with landmarks like The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island in the background. It was also about 70 degrees on Friday, so it was fun to run around without a coat on. Weee!

Bar Mitzvah Palooza 2009

Sadly I Could Not Locate an Existing Image That Said “Barmitzvah Palooza,” So This Will Have to Do

Later this afternoon I’ll be flying out to the west coast to attend the Bar Mitzvah (aka Barmitzvah Palooza) of Mr. Griffin Sloves. Of course, Barmitzvah Palooza will not encompass the entire weekend, so mixed up with the Torah Reading and such, there will also be a bit of San Francisco touristy site seeing, friend visiting, eating, drinking and more eating. Besides rubbing in your very attractive faces the fact that I’m taking a little vacation, I just wanted to let you know this blog will be unmanned until I get back to New York next Tuesday. I am sorry to leave you without web cleverness for a few days, but it really could not be helped. Please enjoy perusing a few of my classic Rock Star Interview Archives while I’m away.

Rad Website of the Day: Really Bad Parenting Advice!

Ignore your kid’s whining and she’ll go away. Either by wandering off or by Child Services.

I’ve spent my entire adult life hell-bent on avoiding the mental anguish, responsibility and stretch marks brought about by parenthood, and succeeding beautifully at my quest! Hurray for me! But those of you out there who’ve chosen the having kids route may enjoy taking a look at this ridiculously cool website I discovered a few day ago: Really Bad Parenting Advice.

The Buzzcocks Release Spiral Scratch EP

“Yeah, well, I say what I mean
I say what comes to my mind
Because I never get around to things
I live in a straight – straight line

You know me – I’m acting dumb
you know the scene – very humdrum
boredom – boredom

B’dum b’dum”

Backstory:
On January 29, 1977, Buzzcocks released their first record, the 7-inch Spiral Scratch – a four song EP containing “Breakdown,” “Times Up,” “Boredom” and “Friends Of Mine.” None of the tracks would appear on an album. Lead singer Howard Devoto left the band shortly after its release. Pete Shelley moved to the front and, after a brief time with Garth Davies, brought in Steve Garvey on bass to form the classic lineup which lasted until 1981. The Manchester, England punk band re-formed in 1989. Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle remain from the original lineup. Howard Devoto went on to form Magazine and Luxuria.

Oh Yeah, Happy Presidents Day

Everybody Dance Now

Well, here we are at the butt end of a fabulous long, holiday weekend, featuring My Birthday bookended by Valloween (very scary) and Presidents Day (AKA Extra Day to Sleep In). How many of you ancients out there recall back in the day when we got both Lincoln’s Birthday and Washington’s Birthday as days off from school? And now they’ve consolidated it into one effing holiday about which no one seems to be quite sure of the significance. It’s a rip off, for sure, but I did enjoy having the extra day to buy groceries, do laundry, eff around on Face Book and conduct one of the most amazing drummer interviews of my career! So I guess it evens out. Tomorrow: Back to the Grind.
